Lab Mixer for Development and Small-Scale Production With its L series, Lödige Process Technology presents a genera- tion of lab mixers that offers im- proved features and ergonomics. The machines were designed for development tasks and small-scale production in the food industry and related branches. They are avail- able in several sizes with drum volumes between 5 and 50 l. A broad range of applications in product and process develop- ment can be covered with the L series of lab mixers. In particular, they enable the process- ing of powdery, granular and fibrous components, the ad- dition of liquids for moisturizing, granulating and coating, the processing of fragile materials without destroying their structure, and the incorporation of fats, lecithin and similar into the mixture. Lodige Process Technology USA, Florence, KY 859-594-3640 www.lodige-pt.com Mixing Mayonnaise Silverson has released a video on mayon- naise production as part of its 'How to' video series. The series already includes videos on food applications including starches, sauces and dressings, xanthan gum, and smoothies. Whether you're making a traditional mayon- naise or a low-fat recipe, producing mayon- naise is challenging. Silverson offers a com- plete system for smaller scale production, ideal for the ready-to-use market, as well as larger In-Line mixers for bulk production. The latest video shows how the mayonnaise plant is able to overcome the problems as- sociated with manual production. Starting with the aqueous phase, liquid egg, and other powders are recirculated through the Silverson in-line mixer before oil is fed from a separate hopper at a controlled rate, ensuring a stable emulsion is formed. Once the oil addition is complete the finished product is discharged immediately. The ProRate Gravimetric PLC controller controls up to six individual feeders, each mounted on a separate feeder scale assembly simultaneously feed- ing into a central hopper. A level control mounted in a central hopper inhibits the feeders when covered to prevent material from overfilling. The ProRate I/gravimetric feeder varies capacities of 20 to 2000 lb/ hr per ingredient. ProRate II/gravi- metric feeder is designed with a 3-in- diam auger, providing high-capacity feeding from 250 to 10,000 lb/hr. The mixer can be com- bined with sludge con- veyors, sludge pumps, and lime feed systems for an effective sludge stabilization process (Class B). The stainless steel units can mix 0.5 to 15 tn/hr of dewatered sludge and can be trailer- mounted for remote treatment areas. The double counter-ro- tating rotors are fitted with intersecting and adjustable paddles to optimize the quality of the mixture as the sludge progresses through the mixer body. The shape of the paddles, specifically designed for this application, ensure efficient mixing of the lime and the sludge, preventing sludge accumulation. Its multi-level design and unique pumping stage enables processing of high-viscosity products without any additional aggregates. This enables extreme suction rates and minimal production times to be achieved. The CMX system is usually supplied with a solid material dosing feeder and mixing containers. Depending on the application and the requirements of the customer, the solid material can be fed via a bulk bag unloader, a funnel, sack-emptying boxes, or directly from the bag via a suction lance. IKA Works Inc., Wilmington, NC 910-452-7059, www.ikausa.com Ribbon Mixers Gardner L Series ribbon mixers are designed for the rapid and efficient blending of powders and granular materials. They are compact batch ribbon mixers that feature a full-length top cover opening for maximum access. The interrupted spiral ribbon agitator is easily removed for cleaning and hygiene and they can be fitted with a large range of outlet valves for controlled flow from the mixer. With working capacity range 1.8 to 14 cu ft, they are ideal for small batch applications. Kemutec, Bristol, PA 215-788-8013 www.kemutecusa.com
