Film for Single-Use Bags An international supplier for the biopharmaceutical industry has developed a new polyethylene film for the Flexsafe family of bags that facilitates implementation of next- generation single-use factories. The complete control of the resins, film, bags, and their final assembly, as well as dedicated supply-chain and quality management for critical fluid-contact components, provides assurance of supply, reliable performance, and a consistent extractable/leachable profile of Flexsafe across all process steps, the company reports. Designed for storage and shipping of biophar- maceutical fluids, the new Flexsafe 3-D Predesigned Solutions (PDS) reportedly meet all the functional and validation requirements of the biopharmaceutical industry. Fluid- contact components are available of the shelf, and their availability is backed by at least a 24-month change notification to provide the delivery reliability and business continuity. The 3-D single-use bags are avail- able in a range of sizes from 50 L to 1000 L and are made of robust, yet flexible, 400-µm-thick coextruded film structure. The strength of this film reduces the risk of damage to the bag, and its flexibility ensures easy installation and self-deployment of bags in containers, such as SSB's stainless steel or plastic Palletanks. The robustness of Flexsafe bags has been demonstrated by shipping tests conducted in both airplanes and trucks and by applying the most stringent ASTM D4169 Standard Practice for Performance Testing of Shipping Containers and Systems. Blister Design Center A center was developed to provide a collaborative space created to help global pharmaceutical cus- tomers bring products to market more quickly and economically. The kp i.center, located in Char- lottesville, VA, ofers the newly expanded BlisterPro XCEL suite of consulting, design, stability, and prototyping services. Working together with the kp team, custom- ers will be able to use the center to test and assess designs in real- time. The cooperative approach will greatly reduce the time it takes to design and choose packaging, thereby shortening product-to- market release, the company states. "We wanted a destination for clients to 'take residency' and work side-by-side with us on their specific packaging needs," says Daniel Stagnaro, Director, Global Market Development. "The center facilitates rapid packaging design, and gives customers a truly per- sonalized experience." Through BlisterPro XCEL's extended services, Klöckner Pentaplast is positioned as the only global film supplier to provide accelerated pharmaceutical product stabil- ity profiling through FreeThink Technology's ASAPprime shelf- life modeling software and ASAP laboratory studies, the company states. FreeThink's recently updat- ed ASAPprime V4.0 integrates details of Klöckner Pentaplast's Pentapharm film line. The ofering reportedly provides customers with a combination of product and packaging optimization benefits, including selection of the optimal barrier film for the pharmaceutical product.
