Description Imagine a prototype of a concept container/package that doesn't require tooling dollars Printing 3D Parts, Inc. (http://www. printing-3d-parts.com) in Youngstown, Ohio has the 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies to create a rapid prototype of a concept container/package in weeks instead of months, with full color graphics and text…and without any tooling cost. A CAD file of the concept container/package is all that is needed. However, if a CAD file does not exist, a 3D scan of an existing container/ package can be made and modified to your specifications. For complete concept visualization of an actual printed container/package, a full color shrink wrapped label of your artwork can be applied to the 3D printed prototype. Any necessary design revisions can be made and incorporated in the next 3D printed prototype. Finished 3D printed prototypes are made from an ABS-like plastic which can be painted, dyed or chrome plated. Additional design tools for the prototype design process are available Most of the time, optimizing the design of a developmental container/ package is a process that involves multiple revisions and redesigns. Printing each prototype design revision with production quality processes can become very costly. Printing 3D Parts, Inc. has the ability to show each design level with cost saving tools. The first design evaluation tool is a 3D PDF file of the developmental container/package…labeled with full color graphics. Once we have a CAD file of concept container/package and the artwork of the label, Printing 3D Parts, Inc. is able to create the 3D PDF that can be viewed on any computer and does not require CAD software. Viewing tools include rotations; cross sectioning; wireframe, box outline, solid body and 3D dimensional measurements. Design reviews can be conducted before any prototype is 3D printed. The second design evaluation tool is a 3D printer using Fused Deposition Modeler (FDM) technology. The 3D printed container/package has a textured surface with slightly less dimensional accuracy. The benefit is a 3D printed concept container/package at a fraction of the cost of the production quality 3D printed part using Multi Jet Printer (MJP) technology.
