The sensitivity and reliability of these ICs compare favourably with those of traditional sensors, yet the magnetoresistive design consumes less energy. Because these components are also smaller, they enhance equipment design flexibility. Medical device applications include hospital beds, in which the sensors can be used to sense the starting and ending position of a bed being adjusted, and infusion pumps, in which a sensor is used to detect when the cartridge is in position and the device is released to operate. Additionally, these sensors are suitable for battery-powered equipment applications in which reed switches have traditionally been used.
