A t Pharmaceutical & Medical Packaging News, we are very excited about Pharmapack North America. We've planned a pretty unique event for June 9 and 10 in New York City, where you'll find a very focused group of exhibitors offering their ideas for advancing the state of the art in pharmaceutical packag- ing and drug delivery. We've also carefully researched topics for the conference program, and as both a confer- ence producer and a moderator for this year's event, I've had the privilege of speaking with many of you about your educational needs. Thank you for sharing your insights, and I invite you all to come see your ideas in action. For instance, we'll begin the conference on June 9 with an entire morning ses- sion dedicated to understanding the recent changes to the packaging chapters of the U.S. Pharmacopeia. Methods for evaluating packaging materials and containers are undergoing significant revision, and this session, led by Dwain L. Sparks, an Eli Lilly and Company retiree, will help attendees understand their changing responsibilities. We will also hear about the very real risks that pharmaceuticals face in the supply chain in an eye-opening session from Brian Donnelly, Global Security, Director, Americas Region, Pfizer; and Tim Marsh, Managing Director of Supply Chain Security Partners, in "Mitigate the Risk of Counterfeiting to Your Brand, Trading Partners, and Patients." You'll hear how counterfeiters operate and what can be done to thwart them. We'll also explore pharmaceutical serialization eforts from both technology and standards experts as well as get an in-depth look at Sanofi Pasteur's serializa- tion program, including the approach, the impact, and the best practices, directly from the serialization program's leader. Innovation in packaging and drug delivery will be highlighted throughout the two-day conference, in sessions such as the June 10 keynote presentation from Nancy Limback, Manager, Packaging Innovation & Development at Sanofi, "Pharma Package Innovation – Method or Magic?" We'll also hear from technol- ogy providers and others who are working to promote product convenience and patient safety through packaging and labeling innovations. Peter Schmitt and Frank Bieganousky of Montesino Associates will moderate a lively panel discussion, "What's Next for Pharma," asking how the pharmaceuti- cal industry will handle the transition from a blockbuster-based model to a more- personalized, almost-consumerized approach uniting traditional pharma with biotechnology and user-centered drug delivery. We've got even more in store for you at Pharmapack North America in New York City, so I hope to see you June 9–10 at the Javits Center's River Pavilion!
