M edical Design & Manu- facturing East returns to New York City to explore the latest tech- nologies and trends in medical device manufacturing. On dis- play in demo mode will be innovations in manufacturing equipment, med- ical-grade materials, packaging and labeling, cleanrooms and sterilization, contract manufacturing, design, elec- tronic components, testing and QA/ QC, and more. MD&M East is co-located with East- Pack, Pharmapack North America, Auto- mation Technology East (ATX East), Quality Expo, Plastec East, Design & Manufacturing Atlantic, and HBA Glob- al Expo. One badge allows attendees to reach all areas of the exhibition, includ- ing the Center Stage, where attendees can witness interactive demonstrations, hear entertaining and keynotes and lively pan- el discussions, and take part in peer-to- peer activities. Also on the show floor is the Tech Theater, where suppliers will be showcasing their latest solutions and innovations. Innovation Tours will be lead- ing attendees through the exhibition on such adventures as "Advances in Robot- ics," "3-D Printing," "10 in 10: 10 Ways Innovation, Design, Demographics, and Global Trends Will Affect Healthcare in 10 Years," "How to Avoid Common Design Mistakes While Prototyping," and "5 Ways Big Data Is Impacting Digital Health." This year's comprehensive 3-day con- ference program features sessions on medi- cal devices, packaging, automation, 3-D printing, and even health and beauty. Kelly, Ph.D., Technical Project Leader & Senior Clini- cal Research Specialist, Medtronic, will be leading a workshop entitled: "Deconstruct- ing the Box: Moving from Designing to Design Thinking." Melissa Torres, Biomedical Engineer, FDA, will provide the following FDA Update: "General Process Validation Principles and Practices." Following will be a roundtable discussion entitled "Pro- cess Validation into Practice" in which a distinguished group of process validation experts will lead an interactive round- table discussion and case study projects, which will provide complete solutions to overcome the most common challenges of process validation. Case studies include process mapping and worse-case set up, software validation for COTS or a tool created in house, and expediting valida- tion timelines. Carl Dekker, President, Met-L-Flo, and Chair, ASTM International Committee F42 on Additive Manufacturing Tech- nologies, will speak on "Material Choice: Selecting from a Diverse Set of Materials." He will compare the advantages/disad- vantages of existing material properties for rapid prototyping and direct to manufac- turing demands, show how one can use multi-material 3DP to fast-track develop- ment and production, and assess availabil- ity and longevity concerns.
