By Daphne Allen Editor F l e x i b l e p a c k a g i n g m a n u - facturer Constantia Flex - ibles (www.cflex.com) has d e v e l o p e d a d e s i c c a n t - incorporating blister pack- aging material for applications that demand the ultimate moisture barrier, reports Frederick J. Lutz, regional sales manager, North America, Pharma Division, for Constantia Flexibles. DryFoil is a cold-formable material that employs a polyethylene desiccant layer in place of the traditional PVC layer, offering what Constantia calls the "highest-possible protection against moisture cross-difusion (ingress)." "Pharmaceutical products are get- ting more and more moisture sensi- tive, which is the reason why absolute moisture protection becomes so sig- nificant," Lutz tells PMP News. "And with Constantia DryFoil, we now ofer a highly reliable alternative for moisture management in cold-form packaging." In addition to protection against moisture cross-diffusion, Constantia DryFoil also ofers shelf-life extension through active moisture protection, he adds. The material also has high absorption capacity. The PVC-free film ofers "reliable system compatibility when coupled with a broad variety of PE-based lid- dings," says Lutz. It can run on standard coldform blister lines. "Forming and sealing is working fine, but the material is less stif, and depending on the packaging line may need to adjust," Lutz says. It is recommended to run trials to ensure processing, he advises. "Trial material is available along with technical service to support prod- uct testing," he says. Constantia's tech- nical support team aims to help users determine an efficient and economi- cally beneficial solution. Constantia also provides guidance Constantia DryFoil is a cold-formable material featuring a polyethylene desiccant layer in place of a traditional PVC layer.
