Once again, Stuttgart will be the center of the European medical device industry when Medtec Europe 2015 opens its doors. About 700 exhibitors and 7,000 industry delegates are expected to attend the show to discuss latest developments in medical technol- ogy. According to event director Chris Edwards, the 2015 edition of the show will be different from past events. Based on a consulting process conducted with exhibitors and leading device manufacturers, such as Medtronic, Phillips, Zim- mer, and Roche, Medtec Europe 2015 intro- duces a number of new features to more closely refect the evolving needs of the medical device industry. start-up Academy best in Class, 2015 As Medtec Europe aspires to be the event where medical device manufacturers go to to learn about emerging technologies, the event will dedicate, for the frst time, an entire pavilion to start-up companies and their innovations. "In mid 2014, we launched the Medtec Start-Up Academy which has been scouring the innova- tion hubs of Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, UK, Ireland and Italy to uncover some of the most innovative technologies," Edwards said. Out of the over ffty applications the organisers selected the most promising twenty to appear at Medtec Europe in Stuttgart. "As well as dem- onstrating these technologies on the show foor, these frms will also present their idea in the con- ference where an esteemed panel of judges will choose the most promising idea to be crowned as the Medtec Start-Up Academy Best in Class, 2015," Edwards told EMDT. Additive Manufacturing Zone Long heralded as the next big thing in medical technology, additive manufacturing increasingly becomes a reality in the day-to-day operations of manufacturers. The new Additive Manufacturing Zone will fea- ture 3-D printing market leaders EOS, Stratasys, Formlabs and Markident demonstrating the capabilities and new applications of the technol- ogy. This will be supplemented by an Additive Manufacturing conference on 22 April. Cleanroom Production Demonstration Long term exhibitors Gimac and BW Tec will be joined by Syneo and Saxe Group in running a Cleanroom Production Demonstration at the show. The demonstration will include a live clean room simulation of tube manufacturing, with different post treatments, such as cut to length, drilling and laser welding. Expert techni- cians will be on hand to answer any questions visitors might have. Free conference right at the show foor Medtec Europe 2015 will feature a total of six conference theatres spread across the three exhi- bition halls. The conference is split into different tracks focused on technology innovations in different medical disciplines orthopaedics, diag- nostics, cardiology and drug device combination products. Speakers from industry leaders such as Becton Dickinson, Novartis, Orange Healthcare, Medtronic, DuPont, SAP, Siemens, and Stryker amongst many more will discuss new technolo- gies, regulatory requirements and the changing landscape of the medtech business.
