So, they increasingly develop system- atic approaches to monitor and evaluate start-ups and their technologies. The goal is to be apprised of the latest developments in the sector and to have a foot in the door at an early stage if the start-up evolves into a worthwhile acquisition target. Some companies are even setting up accelerators around the world in order to evaluate the most innovative ideas. Becton Dickinson (BD), for example, launched two accelerator programs in the United States and one in Israel in 2014, and is planning to add further programs next year. In Israel, BD cooperates with Micro- soft Ventures, which provides the office space and infra- structure for start-ups, and Healthbox, which appropri- ates funding.
