Read more on page 18 Vacuum Conveying: Safe, Secure, and Clean Powder transfer is a difficult business given the wide variety of products and differing conditions under which transfer has to occur. There are many issues to be considered. Read more on page 20 Hygienic Robotic Bag Filler The BFW Series open-mouth bagging machine is a fully robotic bottom-up filler for bagging powdery materials. The BFW Series is adapted to milk, whey protein, bakery mixes, and pharmaceutical powders. It is the combination of a hygienic spout, Fanuc Robot(s), and a bottom-up filling system. Together, these proven technologies offer clean and accurate operations by emitting virtually no dust during the filling process. The system provides both versatility and speed since it can handle paper, polyethylene, and laminated polywoven bags at up to 10 bags/min. In most cases, they eliminate the need for confined space entry and hazardous cleaning techniques such as explosives, water, and air lancing, typically allowing the material to be recaptured and returned to the process stream. Technicians use remote-controlled equipment from the top of the vessel to safely address blockages. Most cleaning projects are performed with the Martin Heavy Duty Whip, a portable, remote controlled tool that can be lowered into storage vessels through a manhole opening. The Martin Buster, which safely dislodges blockages by the force of expanding CO2 gas, can be used for extreme blockages where hardened lumps of material have plugged discharge chutes.
